An only child and originally born in Indiana, Linda Brannen has lived in Florida for practically all of her life (since the age of two months old). Her first love has always been the water and it shows in the recurrence of designs pulled from her tropical home of Florida.

She is an avid saltwater fisherman, but as a child she spent many of her days with a cane pole freshwater fishing on the Hillsborough River which winds its way through Temple Terrace and Hillsborough County. Linda spent several years living in the Florida Keys where she ran a charter business and earned her captains license and became a certified divemaster.

Amazingly, Linda had never picked up a paintbrush until, in November of 1996, a friend suggested that they take a flower arranging class at Michael's (a local craft store). The flower arranging class ended up not interesting her, but as she and her friend were walking around the store, a class where you paint designs on terra cotta pots caught Linda's eye. After she finished the class (and the set of terra cotta pots), she instinctively started to paint on glass.

Only a year later, she did her first show in Brooksville where she sold her first pieces (which were at the time done completely on recycled glass). She realized that painting on glass is completely different than painting on canvas, so in essence she was developing her artistic ability at the same time she was learning how to finesse the paint onto glass. In mid 1997, she also started taking art classes to help build her artistic talent.

She stopped art classes after only a year, but continued to paint on glass. When she returned to the art class after a year of painting on her own, her art teacher was stunned by her progress. Her painting skills had actually improved over the time she was working on her own.

Linda works out of her home and lives in Tampa with her husband Don and her dog Bailey. She continues to paint (on glass and other mediums) almost every day. For more information about her work or to talk about a custom art piece, send your emails to linda@lindabrannen.com.
